We, the family, friends and community, respectfully ask the Court and the appropriate judicial authorities to grant Adrian Contreras a new and fair trial.

Our family is asking for one thing: the opportunity for Adrian Contreras's case to be reviewed fairly and without prejudice.

Adrian Contreras is serving a 22-year sentence following his conviction for homicide by child abuse. His family maintains that Adrian did not abuse his son, Isaiah. They believe that when Isaiah was found struggling to breathe, Adrian did what any loving father would do—he immediately attempted CPR in an effort to save his son's life.

Before Isaiah's death, he had been taken to medical professionals because he was unwell. Our family believes that the cause of his condition was never adequately identified and that important questions about his medical condition remained unanswered.

We also have serious concerns about the fairness of Adrian's trial. Family members and supporters believe that important information was withheld from the jury and that the jury was repeatedly instructed to continue deliberating after indicating difficulty reaching a verdict. We are also concerned by reports that two jurors later expressed reservations about the verdict they reached. Because of these concerns, we believe this case deserves independent scrutiny and a careful review of whether Adrian received the fair trial guaranteed under the law.

This petition is not intended to attack the justice system. It is a request for the justice system to do what it is designed to do: ensure that every conviction is based on a fair process and a complete examination of the evidence.

Adrian is more than an inmate. He is a husband, a father, a son, a brother, and a valued member of his community. He has a wife and three other children who love him deeply and continue to feel the impact of his absence every day. His family believes they deserve the opportunity to have their concerns heard and their loved one's case carefully reconsidered.

We respectfully ask the trial judge and any appropriate reviewing authorities to examine the concerns raised in this case and grant Adrian Contreras a new and fair trial so that all relevant evidence and legal issues can be fully considered.
