The Issue
Angel M. Rodriguez Jr. is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole—for a crime he did not commit, did not plan, and did not know would happen. The evidence proves it. At just 19 years old, Angel was sentenced under the felony murder and aiding and abetting doctrine—even though he wasn’t the person who took a life and had no knowledge that a crime was going to occur. He was charged based on limited association, not direct action. He has now served 20 years. Angel has paid more than enough for his involvement. It’s unjust to take the rest of his life away behind bars. At 16, Angel lost his mother—a devastating loss that scattered his family of 10 siblings. He was expelled from school during a time of deep emotional struggle and had no support system. By 19, he was swept into a tragic event—not as the perpetrator, but as a young man without direction or guidance. In the two decades since, Angel has rebuilt his life from the inside out. He earned his GED, completed numerous educational programs and trades, mentored others, maintained strong faith, and shown genuine remorse and maturity. His transformation is undeniable. If granted clemency, Angel has a loving, stable home waiting for him—a place where he can continue to grow and give back to society. We believe in accountability, but also in redemption. Angel is not the same person he was at 19. And no one should be sentenced to die in prison for a crime they did not commit or intend. Please sign and share this petition to support a second chance for Angel M. Rodriguez Jr. Let’s come together and prove that justice can still include mercy.
