charlotte woodcock started this petition to Grand national race organisers

Far too often Grand National horses die due to the excessively high jumps which their thin limbs can’t cope with - especially when over such a long race. More often than not, any horse that breaks it leg will be put down. This weekend alone at Aintree, 3 horses died - which is 3 too many!!

I would like to see the organisers drop the height of all of the bigger and more dangerous jumps or just simply take them out all together - these include The Chair, Canal Turn, Valentine’s Brook and the notorious Becher’s Brook. This particular jump is not only extremely high but has a drop of between 5 and 10in from take off on the other side and unsurprisingly the horses are not expecting the ground the disappear under them on landing. Surely a race with up to 40 runners is exciting enough without the need to put the horses lives at risk.

I started this petition because…
I’m starting the petition not because I don’t like racing but as an animal lover, I would like to see a change in the way the Grand National is run, which can still give enjoyment and excitement to everyone who watches it, without the senseless deaths of such beautiful animals.
