We also know that many of the car trips in and around Ipswich town centre are relatively short. In order to prevent worse problems in the future and to ensure that the town can grow in a more sustainable way the county council’s policy is to try to give people more choice about how they make their day to day journeys. We are doing this by improving facilities for walking and cycling so that more people are able to choose to make short journeys in this way and we are making bus travel more attractive for longer journeys. The combined effect of encouraging more sustainable travel patterns to reduce traffic demand and getting more efficiency from the road network will make it more likely that the future growth of Ipswich can be accommodated. The county council’s strategy for dealing with the transport growth in Ipswich is set out in the Suffolk Local Transport Plan 2011-2031 - http://www.suffolk.gov.uk/environment-and-transport/planning-and-buildings/transport-planning/loc
