Dear Mrs Wright Further to our earlier exchange of e-mails, I have now had the opportunity to discuss the points you raise with SCC's officers. The Travel Ipswich project includes the introduction of a town wide traffic control system. All of the traffic signals are being upgraded to a modern standard so that they can be directly connected to a new computer that will smooth traffic flow across the network. The system will also reduce the times when busy junctions are so overwhelmed with traffic that nothing can move and to try to improve air quality in areas for which a problem has been identified. In order to make this possible it will necessary to introduce points at which traffic can be held back for a short time until it can be accommodated at the junction. This is the main purpose of the new signals at Norwich Road / Chevalier Street. They will also let us rationalise the three separate pedestrian crossing signals into one locat
