Over the last few years, we have heard of numerous reports of groomer-related animal abuse, injuries, and deaths.  After watching the recent disturbing video of a groomer abusing a dog in Genesee County, Michigan, I am asking our state lawmakers to enact a law requiring all grooming and boarding facilities to install cameras in all areas (except restrooms).  Pet owners must be provided with the website and guest passcode in order to view the video feed in real-time. The feed should also be stored for future reference. 

There are no federal requirements regarding certifications for groomers and Michigan does not require groomers to get licensed. Michigan requires hairdressers to have a state cosmetology license, training, continuing education, and license renewal every two years. This should be the same standard for pet groomers. 

In addition to licensing and cameras, I am asking the state legislature to require a background check and Michigan Animal Abuser Registry check on all groomers.
