Every law enforcement officer puts his or her life on the line for the citizens of this great State everyday. Police Officer's are allowed to respond with their blue lights and sirens to other officers in need of assistance. Currently Company Police is the only exception.

North Carolina has Company Police which are sworn police officer's commissioned under North Carolina General Statue 74E. North Carolina currently has laws in place limiting what a company police officer can do in their respective positions. An example of such limitations is being unable to use their emergency equipment to back up fellow police officers in serious need of assistance. These men and women put their lives on the line everyday as all other law enforcement officers to protect life and property of this state.

These Officers face dangerous situations and are sometimes in need of help by their fellow officers as all other law enforcement officers. Based on current laws of North Carolina, Company Police Officer's are held at a different standard in which reflects in the law that Company Police Officer's lives are not held at the same value as other law enforcement officers.

I am starting this petition to give Company Police Officer's the ability to assist a fellow officer in need of assistance while using their emergency equipment on public streets. Every officer including myself should be allowed to go home to their families every day and night safely. Your loved ones would like for you to come home safely at night and so does mine. We all should value a Police Officer's life that are sworn and out to protect us 365 days a year. All law enforcement officers who have taken the oath to protect the residents of this great State understand the consequences in executing the duties of their office. This State has provided means for many of these officers timely and adequate backup to ensure that they return home to their families. This ability should be afforded to Company Police, because our families and our lives are no less important. There were 105 on duty police officer deaths in 2013 and 45 of those were assault related deaths. That is too many to have (1 is too many to have).

Please give Company Police Officer's the authority to use their emergency equipment on public roads to aid in the assistance of a fellow officer in need. Everyone deserves to go home at night even the ones that are out to protect you. Thank You
