Clemency for my Son, Anthony Vigeant

Clemency for my Son, Anthony Vigeant
The Issue
Anthony Vigeant is my son and only child. He was sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole at the age of 22. Tony did not harm or intend to harm anyone, yet he is sentenced to die in prison. Please take a moment to read Tony's story.
Tony was a friendly, outgoing kid who loved tennis. He was quick to smile, fun-loving and generous with his time and love for family and friends. Shortly after his 20th birthday, while serving in the United States Marine Corps as an administrative clerk, Tony was involved in an incident that resulted in the death of another young man who was in possession of his laptop computer. With the sole intent of retrieving the computer, Tony was shocked and horrified when one of the two others he was with shot and killed the young man. Even though Tony did not harm or intend to harm anyone, he is deeply remorseful for the death of this young man and the pain his family will always feel.
Tony was charged with first degree murder and burglary under the felony murder rule and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Sentenced to die in prison at 22 and struggling with his grief, Tony found his faith in God gave him the strength and courage he needed to engage in programs to improve himself and to trust in God’s purpose for him. He became committed to his personal growth in order to become, as he says, “the man God intends me to be,” and to make amends, even if only inside the prison walls.
Tony has been recognized as a positive and engaging influence to those around him, supporting others to overcome the physical and mental challenges of prison. I humbly ask for your signature that would give my son, Tony, a chance to demonstrate to the parole board his deep remorse, his personal growth, and his commitment to being a positive and accountable member of his community. Thank you for helping Tony to receive this chance.
