Name Platt Tech's High School Sports Fields after longtime Athletic Director Sue Murphy!
The Issue
For over 30 years, Sue Murphy "Murph" has become an integral part of Platt Technical High School in Milford, Connecticut. Sue Murphy continues to give her career caring for every student that walks through the doors of Platt Tech. Sue continues to give back serving as the Athletic Director, Physical Education Teacher, Coach, Class Advisor and more, giving up countless hours with her family and friends all to make a positive impact on the lives of students at Platt.
Sue has accomplished a lot in her career, with some of the following highlights:
- 2018 Connecticut High School Coaches Association, Softball Coach of the Year, First Technical High School Softball Coach to Win
- Inducted into the Amity Regional High School Hall of Fame in 2004
- Inducted into the Eastern Connecticut State University Hall of Fame in 1990
- Athletic Director since 1992
- Softball Coach Since 1990
- Softball Teams 500th Career Win, April 25th, 2019 @ Hatters Park vs. Abbott Tech, 13-6
- Softball 19 Team Championships
- Indoor Track Coach Since 2015
- Indoor Track 3 Team Championships
One of Sue's most important missions has been to make sure that every student has the same opportunity that other school districts offer. To achieve this mission, Sue has spent many years organizing fundraisers like, Hoops for Heart, Pink Panther Day, Golf Classic and Platt Techs Annual 5K Road Race since 1992. If you have been gifted a Platt Tech team t-shirt, a letter, sweatshirt, plaque or jacket, attended a sports banquet or team dinner, that was because of Sue's fundraising. Sue has raised more than three quarters of a million dollars, all going back to the students of all 18 sports teams. Sue continues to show a commitment to all children on and off the field.
If you were fortunate enough to have had Murph as a teacher, coach, mentor, colleague or you have coached against her, you know of the high standard of integrity, sportsmanship, pride and respect she gives and instills in everyone she meets.
After Sue Murphy's dedicated career to making a positive impact on the lives of thousands of students. It is time that we give back to Sue and honor her for all that she has done. I urge you to sign this petition to name the soon to be constructed gymnasium and sports fields at Platt Tech the "Sue Murphy Athletic Complex" and designating the walk to the sports fields as "Murph's Way".
