Shortly before 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, the Department of Labor sent out a tweet addressing the issue:
If you are an unemployment insurance claimant and are not able to file your weekly claim certification this week, please check your BEACON portal to see if you have an “Apply for Benefits” button as pictured below. pic.twitter.com/pHbZnZCvOs

Now as of July 2021 these government benefits will END in Maryland. The misnomer is that people don't want to work or are had been getting $15 and hour, more than their employer pays so it's time that they find a job. Not nearly the case for 90% or greater who still are bound to virtual learning, lack of a position available in their expertise, can't pay their rent or another bills and several inadequate reasons where now $300 through September is needed.
Update November 28, 2025; the General Assembly needs to call for oversight of the Depart of Labor's Unemployment insurance division as a 40 day plus government shutdown and mass layoffs has caused a strain on the Maryland government. There's a foreseen $1.5 billion deficit in the 2026 General assembly session to tackle, on top of a session in 2014 where MD occurred a 3 million deficit.
