Clean up the New Mexico Corrections Academy

Clean up the New Mexico Corrections Academy
The Issue
Recently, Aaron Bell, advanced instructor at the New Mexico Corrections Academy, was forced from his position, when he refused to go along with the newly adopted practice of permitting all cadets to graduate, whether they meet the standards or not. Rather than compounding an unsafe situation by introducing unqualified staff to grossly understaffed facilities, Mr. Bell continued to strive for excellence.
His efforts were rewarded with a hostile work environment, which led to him leaving a career in which he had invested the better part of 20 years, all because he insisted on maintaining a standard of excellence that many of us have come tobelieve in.
This is simply the tip of the iceberg. The current status quo at NMCD has led to a complete breakdown in morale. Despite the fact that NMCD Policy specifically states that the promotion process shall be based upon merit and qualification, the levels of nepotism, favoritism, and cronyism make this impossible. The only thing that can rectify the situation, at this point, will be a full and comprehensive investigation, conducted by the Attorney General, the State Police, or some other outside agency. Keeping it independent will safeguard the integrity of the investigation.
