On June 21, 2021 this letter was sent to the Governor from the Adoptive and Foster Family Coalition of New York.

Don't be duped by the title Preserving Family Bonds - the intent of this impending legislation is to force court ordered visits on children with their biological parents after years of opportunities for their first parents to provide safe care. 

Adoptive parents can and do choose for contact with biological relatives already when it is good for the children; it is not right or appropriate for courts to interfere in the therapeutic parenting these families provide.   Families who adopt from the foster care system deserve the same rights and protections as every other family.   

We already have a shortage of foster and adoptive parents in New York state - let's not make it worse. 

Please help us urge Governor Hochul not to sign this poorly-thought out legislation once again!
