Gender Protections in the state of West Virginia

0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!

This petition is to ask the government of the State of West Virginia to instate Gender Identity protections for the entire state.

We already have 11 cities that have instated sexual orientation and gender identity protections on their own. I believe it is time to finally instate these protections to the whole state, and set an example to the rest of the country!

I believe that everyone should be treated as equal no matter gender identity, sex, sexual orientation, or any other identifying qualities that are already protected against discrimination.

Please help convince the West Virginia State Government to instate Gender Protection laws.

Including, but not limited to:

1). Enforcing federal EEOC Laws for Gender Identity protection against discrimination.

*Quoted from the EEOC website.

"The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is responsible for enforcing federal laws that make it illegal to discriminate against a job applicant or an employee because of the person's race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, GENDER IDENTITY, and sexual orientation), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information. It is also illegal to discriminate against a person because the person complained about discrimination, filed a charge of discrimination, or participated in an employment discrimination investigation or lawsuit.

The laws apply to all types of work situations, including hiring, firing, promotions, harassment, training, wages, and benefits."

Meaning no discrimination while hiring someone or firing someone for gender identity related reason.

2). Including Gender Identity as part of the Fair Housing Act for the state.

"Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 (Fair Housing Act), as amended, prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of dwellings, and in other housing-related transactions, based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status (including children under the age of 18 living with parents or legal custodians, pregnant women, and people securing custody of children under the age of 18), and disability."

Do not let anyone experience discrimination while looking for a home.

3). Protections for individuals to use the bathroom that suits their gender identity without being harassed or discriminated against.

4). Protections against being denied service for the sole reason of gender identity.

5). Protections against discrimination for medical. As in not letting doctors or hospitals deny medical attention to anyone because of their gender identity.

6). Protection from insurance and medicare/medicaid from disregarding medical care for things concerning gender identity.

Please consider helping make our state better by making it an equal rights state!

Thank you for your time and consideration.
