Our lives should matter, too.
I should've written about this days ago, but I have avoided it. Not just writing, but feeling. Fear has shut me down. It is all so overwhelming.
In a matter of weeks, COVID rapidly infested at least 8% of Rockville Prison. Two days ago, officials basically abandoned an entire dormitory of 200 women when dozens more tested positive. The excuse is that the prison has run out of space to quarantine the sick, so now COVID cases will no longer be separated from the healthy. Instead, the person is locked in their room shared with up to 15 other healthy women who literally live three feet apart, leaving us all to be infected, to chance fate, to suffer and be afraid.
I am afraid that my 77 year-old neighbor with emphysema will die because our lives don't matter.
