The plastic bag bills have both been filed for 2017. The respective bills this year house bill 93 and senate bill 0162. If passed, these bills will allow coastal cities with under 100,000 in population to ban plastic bags as part of a pilot program.
Since the last session concluded, more cities have passed resolutions at the local level in support of being able to ban plastic bags.
If you live in Pensacola, next week your city council will be voting on a resolution in support of this measure. It's crucial that you reach out to your elected officials and express your support.
We need more coastal cities throughout Florida to pass resolutions. If you live in a coastal community please email me at mikedyourrealtor@gmail.com or call me at (305) 588-9469.
The next call to action will be sent out when the bills are assigned to their committees. We have to get the bill heard in the Florida House this year.
Happy New Year and 2017 will be the year that the plastic bag bill gets passed!
