Open Outdoor Youth Sports Activities in Massachusetts

Open Outdoor Youth Sports Activities in Massachusetts
The Issue
Recreational, Outdoor Sports are essential to everyone's physical & mental health. The COVID-19 social isolation impact on our children has been immense, yet it is largely unaddressed. High School athletics were cancelled & now outdoor summer sports & camps like baseball, lacrosse, football & soccer are also in jeopardy. The businesses that manage these activities are now in dire financial straits, putting them at risk of defaulting on their loans and bankruptcy if not re-opened immediately. The curve has been flattened, the peak is over and COVID-19 has been shown to have a negligible impact for the under 40 population in the Commonwealth. Please allow the following to occur in Phase I of your re-opening Plan commencing on May 18, 2020:
- Allow all outdoor recreational sports to fully re-open by June 1st
- Grant permission to the local municipalities & schools to allow permitting to begin on their fields for this purpose by June 1st
- All participants shall adhere to the Commonwealth's safe social distancing guidelines
- Indoor gatherings will be limited to Commonwealth's general guidelines for capacity & social distancing & masks shall be required as long as that Executive Order remains in effect
- Fans will be limited to safe numbers based on outdoor capacity & they must also adhere to the social distancing guidelines and masks
Everyone shall intend to stay safe & follow these rules in accordance with the Commonwealth's plan. We simply ask that you consider Massachusetts' youth and the substantial negative impact on their health if these activities do not safely resume expeditiously. Thank you.
