Dear Supporters, Thank each and every one of you for helping us achieve our goal - a shelter in place for Georgia. Now that Governor Kemp has announced the Order and provided the specifics, and with the Order set to go into effect at 6 PM tonight, I think it is safe to Declare Victory! As we all know, the Order was overdue. Our work is just beginning as a likely surge of infections and deaths comes to our state. We must play catch-up to minimize the impact of the surge and save as many lives as possible. Fortunately, it's rather simple. Just stay home. We've all done harder things in our lives. The success of the shelter in place Order will hinge on what we do as individuals. Each individual choice makes a difference. In deciding whether or not to leave your home for any particular purpose, I ask you to pause and consider whether you are leaving for a need or a want. Or in healthcare terms, whether your purpose is urgent or elective. At the beginning of this crisis, healthcare workers faced a paradigm shift. We are trained to do everything humanly possible for each individual patient. The need to pivot towards prioritization of societal health quickly became apparent. Most facilities have postponed elective office visits and procedures to protect not only patients, but also healthcare workers and society at large. In reality, this paradigm shift extends far beyond healthcare workers. It applies to everyone. Every Georgian, every American is being asked to look beyond individual desires for the greater good. This is an opportunity to come together as a state and as a nation with a common purpose - saving lives. What is good for the individual is also good for the whole. We can do this, together. Thus, my hope is that all of us will put urgent societal needs ahead of elective individual wants during this blip in our collective history. I for one believe that we will. Stay home, stay safe, and if you are able to do so safely, consider being of service to someone in need. It is rare that virtually all of humanity experiences something so jarring at the same time. Most of us are anxious. Most of us are scared. None of us is alone. While we must remain physically distanced, please stay socially connected. We need each other more than ever. With gratitude, Akshat
