Petition updateRequest that the Texas State Legislature enact a Monuments Protection Act"Silent Sam" Veterans Monument Remains Down After Assault

After the premeditated assault on the UNC veterans monument "Silent Sam" by a furious mob of angry iconoclasts in August 2018, "Silent Sam" still remains "down and out" despite being protected by a monument protection law in the State of North Carolina. Why is Silent Sam not back on his pedestal? Has justice been served on the large number of perpetrators? It appears that UNC officials have no intention of putting "Sam" back up on his original place. Instead, it appears he is going "into the closet," far removed from the individual site and at great expense. University officials fear that if they abide by the letter and spirit of the law, "Sam" might be exposed to further criminal attack. So much for the rule of law. The winner here is mob violence.

We are welcoming suggestions from petition supporters for language to attach to our petition that will give the Texas law "teeth" so that what happened at the University of North Carolina will not repeat itself here.
