On August 20, 2018 masked anarchists and student iconoclasts at UNC Chapel Hill implemented a part of the Southern Poverty Law Center agenda to eliminate all Confederate veterans monuments in the United States.
The "Silent Sam" veterans monument at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill was crafted by noted Canadian sculptor John Albert Wilson. Wilson was a professor of the School of Architecture at Harvard University and is best remembered for the compelling power of his work commemorating veterans of both the North and South.
The statue at Chapel Hill was erected as a memorial to the Confederate alumni who lost their lives in the Civil War. Over one thousand members of the university fought in the war in both armies, comprising at least 40% of the student body.
The media footage of the assault speaks for itself--complete and utter disdain for the sacrifices of American veterans.
It is high time to implement a Monuments Protection Act in Texas and to give the law teeth to enforce any desecration of veterans monuments as a felony offense.
