Inquiry into the failings of TNT and their government contract to deliver passports

The Issue

TNT (owned by FedEx) were awarded a 3 year £77million contract by the UK Government in July 2019 to deliver new/renewed passports for HM Passport Office. In recent months thousands of us have experienced significant delays in getting our passports delivered.

Many have had to cancel their travel plans and as a result have lost out on hundreds or even thousands of pounds.

Unlike many other couriers, TNT do not seem to provide real time tracking, nor can you provide delivery instructions. People have experienced numerous failed delivery attempts, others have had their delivery date continuously pushed back with no end in sight. Some have even had their passport  or application supporting documents lost by TNT.

A simple Twitter search of 'TNT passport' or checking TNT's trust pilot reviews highlights the scale of the problem. HM Passport Office seemingly have no interest in helping, and it is nearly impossible to speak to anyone at TNT to discuss the issue.

We demand an investigation and inquiry into:

1) the due diligence carried out when deciding whether to award the contract to TNT.

2) why TNT'S failure has not been looked into by the government.

3) why TNT have been allowed to continue failing to deliver our passports and not bring in another courier service to take over.
