Dear supporters,
Below is an article on Yon's status as of 08/31/2016 and its English translation.
Nizar El Fakih, lawyer to Voluntad Popular activist, Yon Goicoechea, informed through his twitter account @nizarUCAB, that his client was presented to the court “after more than 56 hours of being held incommunicado”.
Earlier El Fakih, asserted that he presented a constitutional protection action before the 23rd Control Tribunal of Caracas, and a claim before the Public Ministry, the General Attorney for Fundamental Rights and the Ombudsman’s Office, for not acknowledging Goicoechea’s whereabouts.
“The Ombudsman’s Office has had a very active role, it has been the only institution that has given us answers, but even they have not had access to our defendant (…) apparently he will be transferred to the Palace of Justice and we hope that will happen, in order to be able to have access to his file and see what he is being accused of”, he said.
During contact with the radio show “Por Donde Vamos” conducted by Vanessa Davies from Unión Radio”, the lawyer dismissed the alleged evidence found against Goicoechea as truthful, considering that he believes that the detention was made in an irregular manner.
“The detention made in an irregular manner (…) that he was interrupted by a vehicle without a license plate, that citizens without a uniform came out of the vehicle without any identification from any authority or public organization, subdue him to force, transfer him and Yon is left totally incommunicado, we do not know where he is being held (…) we went to all locations possible of the Cicpc, the Police and even to El Helicoide (…) and he was not there” he detailed.
