Government of Spain: We want to be parents - legalize surrogacy now!

When in 2004 the right to marriage for same-sex couples, including the right to adoption was guaranteed by law in Spain, I knew something was changing and I cried with joy. Thanks to this decision, then a pioneer in the world, thousands of men and women could fulfill the dream of sharing their lives and have children.
However, there is still a way to go. Heterosexual couples, single women or female couples of the same sex have the option to become parents through assisted reproductive processes covered by Social Security in regions like Andalusia. But same sex make couples or single men would have to leave the country and pay between 60,000 and 160,000 euros in order to become parents.
Adoption is an option, yes, but bureaucracy and long waiting lists in our country and the ban on adoption by homosexuals and single men in many foreign countries makes this a very difficult option.
Therefore, for most homosexual men, single men and many women with uterine problems, the feasible option is the gestational surrogacy, referred to in the media and popularly, though erroneously, as "womb for rent". With two problems: besides being extremely expensive, it is not legal in Spain.
In the United States, Greece, Nepal or Mexico surrogacy is legal and it looks like in many other countries it will be legalized and regulated soon. Spain should again be a reference against discrimination and for equality among all. So we ask the parties to commit to legalize and regulate it in the next legislature.
