Include Animal Welfare, Environmental Science and Health as subjects in school.

The Issue

INTRODUCTION :-
There is a serious need for improvement of Education System in India. India is a developing country with the largest youth population. According to UNO report India will overtake China to be the most populous country by 2027. If we don't provide good education then this population will be a burden on us, will increase crime rates, pollution, and unemployment. With simple Education & Awareness We can solve most of our country's problems. We don't want Govt to make huge budgets and projects which have little impact on ground level. But only education can make a huge impact. We need to direct our youths to live a good life and be good responsible citizens. But our education system is very theoretical, lacks practical skills and providing morals values to children. Our education system is actually killing children's talent, because they are forced to sit and mug up books for hours & hours. Teaching basic life skills will benefit students more than theoretical subjects.  Even educated people are confused and ignorant about such basic topics nowadays. Only Education can save our country and world.

We request Government of India, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Ministry of Education, India to include these subjects :

✔️✔️ANIMAL WELFARE

24,000 animal cruelty cases were registered in just 3 years. In Mumbai alone 19,000 + animal cruelty cases have been registered in 5 years. But none of those culprits were arrested due to the PCA Act 1960 which allows them to escape by paying ₹ 50 fine. We request Govt to amend this law & make compulsory imprisonment.
We have witnessed many animal cruelty cases this year. The Kerala pregnant elephant case, Cow given explosives as food in Himachal Pradesh, monkey tied and beaten in Telangana, jackal killed in Tamil Nadu and hundreds of cases of torturing, poisoning and killing of stray dogs. There are also many cases where animal feeders have been harassed. Its a shame that people buy expensive breed dogs but they don't know how to behave with stray animals. This planet is not only ours but also belongs to all other animals. 70% of Andaman corals have been destroyed, & many species like the Indian Cheetah, Sundarban Rhinos, Indian Auroch have gone Extinct due to hunting and illegal trade. We need to also save endangered species like Blackbuck, Nilgiri Tahr, & One horned Rhinos.
If we teach children to respect and care for animals we can prevent such cases. Inturn we will have more compassionate citizens, which will also reduce the crimes in our country.
Children can be taught how to feed animals, nurse animals, & rescue them. There should be live sessions with all animals like cow, chickens, pigs, monkeys, donkey, horse, fish, dogs, turtle, pigeons, peacocks, etc. Only then students will develop compassion. We can also teach wildlife protection measures. This will also develop the personality of students, they will become more responsible, caring, & helpful. It will also be a fun activity for students. It will help us live in symbiosis with animals.

✔️✔️HEALTH

We should teach children about Nutrition, which food sources are good, exercising, Yoga, meditation and ill-effects of alcohol, drugs, & smoking. We can also make students aware of adulterants in food, Organic foods, and how to make a well balanced diet. Children should be taught about First Aid and how to use Ayurveda for better Health and how to maintain hygiene and avoid diseases. Prevention is better than cure.
• Junk Food - Globally 11 million people die below the age of 70 every year due to high Blood pressure and other prevetable diseases. This is more than no. of people dying by smoking. Junk food is the invitation for lifestyle diseases like heart disease, diabetes 2, cancer, thyroid, etc. In India the obesity rate has doubled in the past 2 decades. This is because there is no guidance to students about health & also because of junk food chains like McDonalds, KFC.
• Pandemic - We have already faced many pandemics. Covid-19, Brucellosis, Swine flu, CJD. But we never learnt from it. Still wet markets are functioning and animal trade is happening in India. Covid 19 cost us ₹ 10 lakh crore to rebuild our economy.
• Water Pollution & hygiene - 21% of India's diseases are water related. Ex - Typhoid, Cholera, Diptheria, Malaria, cancer, etc.
India loses ₹ 3.75 trillion every year due to water related problems. India has one of the highest malaria cases in the world. Stagnant water usage allows mosquito larvae and other diseases to grow. Simple education could prevent this.
• Alcohol, Cigarettes, tobacco, drugs - our textbooks fails to educate students about basic things like abstinence from narcotics and other addictions. 1 crore people die every year due to tobacco & smoking in India, which is 12% of global deaths. ₹ 130 crore is spent every year in drug rehabilitation, but if the same amount was used in education we could have seen some change. Addiction leads to many disorders & is also a major reason for suicides.
• Healthcare Bills - 55 million Indians were pushed into below poverty line due to Healthcare bills in one year. But what if we had already taught them how to prevent diseases ? Most of diseases are preventable by good eating habits, exercise and hygiene.
• Nutrition - In India more water consuming crops like wheat, rice, sugarcane are given focus. Oil production is also huge, while we already know oil is bad for health. But more nutritious crops like Jowar, Bajra, Rajma, moongfali, sesame seeds, chia seeds, jaggery, Tulsi, Giloy, Neem, Ashwagandha, Anjir figs, Alubukhar Prunes are given less land for cultivation. Hence we need more awareness about nutrition for good health of people. We can also export these crops and make huge profit.
• Animal Agriculture - due to western culture influence in India, meat eating is becoming a trend. But we must understand that the meat industry is neither sustainable nor is good for health. Meat has high cholesterol & saturated fats which causes heart disease, diabetes 2, cancer, thyroid, high BP, inflammations, CVD, Salmonella, bird flu, Swine flu, auto-immune disease and many other diseases.

✔️✔️ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE

People are still ignorant about Pollution, Global Warming, deforestation and it's effects on agriculture, climate and health.
We cannot understand our world without first understanding our Environment. What is the use of science and technology if we are only using it to destroy our planet ? We should teach students about all Environmental problems, So that they can make better choices in life, they can reduce their carbon and water footprint and choose a sustainable lifestyle.
⏩⏩ Problems ----->
• Air Pollution - India has 3rd highest emissions in the world. Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata are among top 10 worst Air Quality rankings. Delhi AQI had crossed 619 & was in emergency state last month. Air Pollution causes many diseases like Asthma, Rhinitis, Laryngitis, Bronchitis, Pulmonary disease. One million deaths every year due to air pollution in India. 12 lakh children live with Asthma. India bears loss of $ 150 Billion or 5.4 % of GDP due to air pollution. While Govt has taken some good steps like E-Rickshaw and air purifiers/carbon traps but that's not enough for stopping air pollution unless we treat the root cause.
• Water Pollution causes 21% of India's diseases. Typhoid, Cholera, Diarrhoea, Hepatitis, Cancer, Malaria and skin diseases.
4,00,000 children die every year from Diarrhoea alone. India loses ₹ 3.75 trillion every year due to water pollution. Most of our rivers are getting polluted by detergents, chemicals, sewage waste, fertilizers and pesticides which people release in water bodies.
• Droughts - India is facing one of the worst droughts in history. Our huge population needs very high water consumption, but we are the 13th most water scarcity nation. We also witnessed Chennai droughts last year. This is because of unsustainable use of water - animal agriculture, high water requiring crops like rice & wheat, intensive agriculture, River Encroachment, industrial use of groundwater, etc. 68% of Indian region is drought prone affecting 300 million people. Govt has brought some good steps like MGNREGA, but it's not enough to solve the whole problem, we need better Education. We must not forget water is a non-renewable resource.
• Land Degradation -  According to ISRO 30% of India's land is already under land degradation. Unsustainable farming practices, fertilizer & pesticide use, intensive agriculture, Soil erosion, pollution and many other reasons causes it. The land degredation is experienced in all states & increases by 0.57% every year. This can hugely affect our agriculture and food distribution leaving many people hungry.
• Climate Change -- Due to increased industrialization, vehicle use, electronic appliances, and consumerism we are contributing hugely to Green house gas emissions. We can see the effects of climate change in agriculture in the forms of droughts and land degredation. We have faced Amphan cyclone, Odisha cyclone, Chennai droughts, Kerala floods, Uttarakhand floods, Bihar floods, Assam floods. We have also witnessed Locust attack. This is because of Global warming, and its effects on ocean currents. We have also created a Dead Zone in Bay of Bengal due to overfishing & Pollution. One of the Lakshadweep islands has already sunk, the sea level there has risen by 0.6 metre in last 20 years. The Average temperature has risen by 0.7% in last century, and extreme high temp. is recorded at 51°C which has increased by 1°, and extreme lowest temp. is recorded at - 55°C which has increased by 1° over the past 50 years. ₹ 577 crore is disaster management budget, various states are given ₹ 17,000 crore, NDRF budget ₹ 25,000 crore. But what are we doing to prevent climate change and disasters ?
• Resource wastage by rich people & corporates - Rich people in India can buy land anywhere, they can do construction, they can waste water in car washing & watering lawns. We request Govt to make a law to restrict people from wasting resources. Everyone deserves resources equally. Also some companies are using huge amounts of water for industrial use, especially the leather industry & soft drink industry. We recommend Govt to promote alternatives like artificial leather. Also excessive use of lighting for buildings, & sprinkler use in stadiums must be regulated.
• Animal Agriculture - India has 11% of world's livestock, & 15% of world's cattle population, which is 536 million in total.
-Animal agriculture takes up 20 million hectares of land, which is 15% of India's agricultural land.
-To feed those animals we need more than 1000 million tonnes of fodder, but in reality there is a huge 24% fodder shortage in India.. -We Indians don't have food for poor children, while millions of tonnes of food is only used for meat production.
-Also Pulses, which has more protein than meat, requires 4 times less water than poultry & 15 times less water than cattle.
-Then why aren't we focusing on pulses ? Why are we growing meat which requires much more land & water & is not even nutritious ?
⏩⏩Some Measures we can take with good Education ----->
• Plastic Pollution -- If we educate people about plastic pollution, they will reduce plastic usage, & ensure that they don't dump plastic on beaches & public places. It will also help Swachh Bharat Abhiyan & save marine animals. This will also save Crores of Rupees spent on beach cleaning & sewer cleaning. We can teach them how to make alternatives of plastic like Reusable bamboo straws, reusable cloth pads, Datun, wooden bottles, etc
• Reforestation - We should educate children about how forests provide us oxygen, & prevent droughts & floods. We can also teach them how to plant trees, & conserve them. This will enable us to reach the goal of 33% forest cover.
• Stubble Burning - teach farmers about products made from stubble, we can prevent thousands of kilograms of CO2 that is released by stubble burning.
• Carbon Footprint - teach students about how to reduce their CO2 emissions by using public transport, using CFL bulbs, & less use of Electric appliances. Focus on electric vehicles, if we succeed in Electric vehicles field, it will help our GDP a lot.
• Save Resources - teach students about Rainwater harvesting. Thousands of litres of rainwater goes waste every year. We can teach students about how "less is better" & not to burn excessive fuels, food should not be wasted, water should not be wasted in excessive household or industrial work. We can also bring new techniques like Drip Irrigation & Hydroponics to save water in agriculture.
• Energy Consumption - Teach students about Solar Power and other renewable sources of energy. This also further increases our country's GDP & saves the money spent in mining & processing coal. Also teach students to reduce use of electronic appliances like AC, fridge, cooler, TV, etc. & shift to sustainable alternatives like Water Storage of vegetables, temperature reducing plants.
• Water Pollution - Teach farmers about Organic farming to prevent Water pollution by fertilizer. Also teach Cattle owners to make Cowdung products to prevent waste from polluting rivers. It can also replace dairy & meat industry which pollutes a lot.
• Waste Management -  Teach students about waste segregation, recycling, composting. Reduce - consumption, Reuse - old products, Recycle plastic, glass, cloth, metals, E-waste, etc
• Overpopulation - Educate students about overpopulation problem in our country, & it's preventive measures. We can present Adoption as an alternative, which will also save orphan children & also save our country from overpopulation. We also suggest Govt to bring Population control bill.
Thank You!
