Protect the Automotive Hobby NL
Why this petition matters
The automotive hobby is in danger in Newfoundland and Labrador. Automotive enthusiasts are at risk of no longer being able to enjoy their family friendly activities.
Recently, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has begun an enforcement campaign aimed at: "illegally modified exhaust systems and other modifications" - alleging that the installation of aftermarket parts is done with the intent of causing harm in the community. This is factually untrue and without merit.
Some positive aspects of the hobby include: support for numerous charities, bonding experiences for family members, creative outlets, opportunities for self expression, healthy coping mechanisms for individuals with mental health issues, and the ability to positively influence the youth.
Hot rodding and vehicle modification is baked into the culture of Newfoundland and Labrador and is something to be celebrated - not shunned.
STOP all active law enforcement measures aimed broadly at modified vehicles and automotive enthusiasts in Newfoundland and Labrador.
UPDATE the highway traffic act to allow the safe modification of vehicles.
