Dear neighbors, The contract for the study has been awarded to an out of state company called RESPEC, they are scheduled to begin the study on January 31st. The scope of the study does not call for them to do any independent measuring, they will be reviewing reports of previous blasts. We are still waiting to see which quarries are going to be subject of the review. Since this is a statewide study, any of the hundreds of mines in Florida can be included in it. In order to encourage them to study White Rock Quarries, the City of Miramar Citizens Advisory Blasting Committee drafted a letter which you can send to the State Fire Marshal letting him know that excluding WRQ puts the validity of the study in question. Additionally, we need to make sure that RESPEC is aware of the impact that the blasting is having on our life and our property. Make sure that you tag @RESPECinc on your blasting tweets, visit their website (www.respec.com) and tell them what it's like to live with these explosions. We need to maximize our chances of getting a solution based on the findings of the study by putting a human face on the problem and ensuring that they examine data in the proper context. I believe that the inclusion of these elements into the study will enhance its credibility as a well-researched study that is aimed at addressing the concerns of Florida residents such as myself regarding the effects of blasting on properties and persons. This City of Miramar specific study should include the following: 1. Wall strain calculations 2. Assessment of house damages 3. Damages other than wall cracks 4. Floor and Foundation damages 5. Roof damages, and 6. Structural damages 7. Patio damages 8. Pool damages 9. Driveway damages The study should include residential communities, schools, banks and other commercial properties within the City of Miramar that are located within the proximity of the White Rock Quarries, and specifically: 1.
