Dear neighbors, We are happy to announce that Gov. Scott approved $325,000.00 for the Blasting study. This is the result of combined efforts from State Representative Manny Diaz Jr., Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief, Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam, Miramar Commissioners, especially Darlene Riggs, and more importantly, you. If you sent an email, made a phone call, attended a meeting, or posted on social media, you also did this. It is thanks to this collective effort that we can now hope for a solution to this ongoing problem. Neighbors, let's keep the momentum going and use our voice to make the best out of these monies. We have seen the damage that blasting is causing to our homes, but we also need to demand that the study includes both the possible health effects of daily exposure to ground vibrations and the dangers of chemicals that might be released after the explosions and that could jeopardize the safety of our water sources. Let's use our voice to say NO to the proposed "Good Neighbor Agreement" that White Rock Quarry wants to use to stop our efforts. This agreement is detrimental to our movement. WRQ is not offering anything that they aren't already doing. Instead, they are asking the City of Miramar to waive the citizens' rights to a trial by jury and to not pursue or support any efforts to change the existing ground vibration limits. These requests are an insult to our work and a clear example of the arrogance of this company. Please join us on June 7 at 7:00 pm at the Miramar Commission chambers (2300 Civic Center Place, Miramar, FL. 33025) to say Thank You to our elected officials for this big accomplishment, and to request that they walk away from the good neighbor agreement proposal at least until we receive the results of the study. Additionally, the Blasting Citizens Advisory Committee meets the 3rd Thursday of every month, next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 15th at 6:30 PM at 2200 Civic Center Place, 2nd Floor. These meetings are open to the public, your participation is encouraged. Information about the committee can be found here: http://www.miramarfl.gov/1370/Blasting-Citizen-Advisory-Committee Once again, thank you for your constant support. "One of us can be dismissed, two of us can be ignored, but together we are a movement, and we are unstoppable!" See you on Wednesday wearing RED!
