Dear neighbors, On April 13th, Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam met with Governor Rick Scott and urged him to fund the Blasting study currently appropriated in this year's legislative budget. A member of the Riviera Isles Blasting Committee joined him at the event to represent the residents. Governor Scott was presented supporting documents and signatures that captured the daily damages endured by Miramar residents as a result of the blasting by White Rock Quarries. "There is concern that the governor may veto funding requests in this year's budget based on the position of bill sponsors towards Funding for Enterprise Florida." Mayor Messam urged the governor yesterday to not make the position of Representative Diaz and Senator Garcia on Enterprise Florida a precondition to funding the Blasting study. The Mayor wants us to remember that the mining lobbyists will push hard to block funding for this study. Mayor Messam stated, "Miramar residents, elected officials, and stakeholders must push even harder than the lobbyists to pressure the governor to do the right thing. He must know 10,000's of voters reside in the impacted area and he can't ignore our community." WHAT YOU CAN DO: - Please keep calling Governor Scott and ask him to approve funding for the blasting study. - Attend the Miramar Commission Meetings to speak up about your own experience with the daily blasts, how this affects you and your loved ones. The next meeting will be April 20th @ 7:00 pm, Miramar City Hall. Remember to wear RED. - If you are the parent of a student attending one of the affected schools and you want to speak on their behalf, please come to the commission meeting. We need to hear from you. - Keep spreading the information, sharing this petition, and more importantly, do not stop complaining. This is not normal.
