It is the year 2020 and women in Sri Lanka do not have access to safe and legal abortion. Safe specialist services are available to women that can afford them meanwhile other women access services under unsafe and exploitative conditions. 

The fact that Sri Lanka has not made these services accessible for all women shows lack of care and compassion as these women have to turn to unsafe and dangerous methods of abortion, even in the case of rape. This is unethical in many ways as a woman should have the basic human right to choose whether or not she wants to have the baby as it is her body. In some cases a woman may not be prepared to raise a child and find it difficult may it be because she is too young, or has work or family commitments. A pregnant woman's mental and physical health is far more important than that of a fetus or embryo. Without access to legal abortions means that women have to turn to 'back street' abortions causing a great deal of suffering to the health and wellbeing of the woman.
