NH STATE POLICE IGNORE DOUBLE HOMICIDE OF 19 YEAR OLD AALIYAH JACOBS
The Issue
2 years ago I went to a party with many childhood friends. Little did I know, it would be the last time I saw the person who I considered to be closest to as a young teen. Aaliyah Jacobs was the definition of selfless. She was a person who would cry with you, laugh with you, and be by your side through the absolute worst. She was a person who I was incredibly lucky to have known, and to be able to call a friend.
4 months later, headlines of a double homicide imploded through New England. Everyone's hearts shattered as such an invent seemed too tragic to ever be true. At 19 years old, Aaliyah Jacobs and Neil Bastor were killed unexpectedly in their own home. The next day, a warrant was arrested for the perpetrator; Derrick Shippee. Derrick was later found in a field located in Vernon, Vermont. Derrick was found dead due to a drug overdose, leading to no answers. The community was shattered, and we are all still itching for answers as to why we lost people so dear to us. As the press informed the community, we found ourselves still without closure, and confused so as to how this all happened. That is all the information we know, and 2 years later this is still not enough.
The 2 year anniversary of this tragedy will fall in April of 2021. This past week in September of 2020, the New Hampshire Attorney General, GORDAN MACDONALD, stated that still no more information on the event will be released to the public. We ask you to sign this petition to get closure. Aaliyah's family, her friends, and her community REFUSE to stay silent any longer. It's been almost 2 years and we still don't know why we lost someone loved so dearly. Aaliyah should now be 21, living up what should of been the best years of her life. Instead though, she was robbed of these years. Her family were robbed of time with her, of precious memories, and GORDAN MACDONALD does not care.
We have seen NO effort put in by the State Police in resolving this matter. We have seen NO progress from GORDAN MACDONALD in finding justice or closure for Aaliyah and her family. In an article published by the Sentinel Source newspaper GORDAN MACDONALD stated his reasoning is due to "personnel changes within the state police". Another excuse was that the release of any information could "taint the ongoing investigation". This is funny considering (as stated above) there has been NO investigation due to personnel changes. That being said, the perpetrator of this incident was found dead 2 years ago. We already know who did it, we just want to know why. We want to know how. We need those answers, and it doesn't appear that New Hampshire State Police even has them to give to us. We have been shown nothing to support a claim of any sort of investigation taking place. Aaliyah and Neil deserve more than what GORDAN MACDONALD has given.
This "investigation" has made me lose all hope for New Hampshire State Police. It's disgusted me to the point of no return. If a case involving an unexplained home invasion, of which resulted in the HOMICIDE of a 19 YEAR OLD GIRL, isn't a priority to the New Hampshire state police or GORDON MACDONALD, then what are they prioritizing? How does ANYONE have faith in a system like this?
We ask you to sign this petition as an attempt to gain answers. We want justice. We want closure. We want peace. After 2 years, knowing why we lost someone so important to our community should NOT be too much to ask. With this petition, I hope we can take this to New Hampshire Attorney General GORDON MACDONALD to get the affidavit of Derrick Shippee. We ask for the motive concluded as to why Derrick Shippee entered their home and KILLED Aaliyah and Neil. We ask for answers surrounding the circumstance of this event. If there is any reasoning as to why our community can't obtain these demands, we ask for better justification around it. There have been too many excuses and not enough answers, and the time to change this is now. Until any action is taken, we will no longer stay silent in support of GORDAN MACDONALD or the New Hampshire State Police.
