Go Far With CPR- Make CPR Education Mandatory in English Schools.
The Issue
As someone who has experienced immense loss due to heart attacks within my own family I have decided to start this petition, to raise awareness and bring about real change. I lost both of my grandfathers due to cardiac arrest’s at home. Sadly, I never got the chance to meet either of them. On my paternal side, a family member was by my grandfathers side at the scene but was not equipped with the life-saving knowledge of CPR. The arrival of the ambulance was longer than expected, and if she had known how to perform such basic lifesaving skills, he would have had a better chance of survival.
The NHS website states:
”if someone collapses the difference is that moment is a member of the general public knowing how to perfect CPR or First Aid. To help the casualty before they arrive to the scene.” So I pose the question, why is this not mandatory in our educational curriculum?
These deeply personal tragedies have inspired me to take action – I became a beach lifeguard and have been a dedicated surfer from a young age, and I always craved the ability to assist in an emergency. I am now the proud founder of Go Far With CPR, advocating for basic CPR and first aid education for younger generations. We believe in turning the tragedy into something productive and potentially helping to SAVE A LIFE.
Annually, more than 30,000 people in the UK have an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, but the survival rate is less than 1 in 10 (British Heart Foundation). A key to increasing survival rate is quick intervention, and if CPR is performed in the first few minutes, it can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival.
Therefore, I urge you to reconsider the school curriculum in England and make CPR training and first aid education mandatory in all schools. By doing so, we can equip our younger generations with skills to save a life with their bare hands, potentially saving thousands of lives each year. Be a part of this change and sign this petition.
