Millions are watching.
A few are signing.
That difference tells a story.

The petition “Call for Compassion: Let Thích Minh Tuệ Walk in Peace” has gathered 1,090 signatures across 28 countries.

It was created by a private individual — not an institution, not a public figure — simply someone moved by conscience.

Since May 2024, global interest has remained high. Search activity related to his name approaches 100 million per month. Roughly one million people follow his journey daily.

But attention is not the same as action.

For those living inside Vietnam, signing may carry sensitivity. Change.org is not easily accessible domestically. In that context, hesitation may reflect prudence, not indifference.

Which is why the 240 signatures from Vietnam matter.

They reflect quiet civic courage.

The Dhammapada teaches:
“Better than a thousand hollow words is one word that brings peace.” (Dhp 100)

And:
“Hatred is never appeased by hatred… by non-hatred alone is hatred appeased.” (Dhp 5)

In the Gospel:
“Blessed are the peacemakers.” (Matthew 5:9)

And:
“Do to others as you would have them do to you.” (Luke 6:31)

Peace is measured by sincerity, not volume.

The United States contributes 619 signatures — the largest share — and many signatories are not of Vietnamese origin. Support extends beyond diaspora communities to a broader public committed to conscience and religious freedom.

France — once Vietnam’s colonial power — contributes comparatively few signatures. History once imposed authority. Today, moral presence must be demonstrated, not inherited.
“Not by birth does one become noble, but by conduct.” (Dhp 393)

The petition has been respectfully referenced in communications with authorities in Sri Lanka, India, and most recently Nepal — not as pressure, but as evidence of international awareness and goodwill.

This petition is not political.
Not a fundraising effort.
Not a charitable campaign.

It exists for one reason:
to protect Thích Minh Tuệ’s virtues, disciplined cultivation, and peaceful religious life.

The request is simple:
Let a renunciant walk in peace.

In Buddhist teaching, wisdom and compassion arise together. Non-self loosens fear.
“By sustained effort, the wise one may cleanse oneself.” (Dhp 281)

In Christian teaching:
“Let us not grow weary in doing good.” (Galatians 6:9)

Wisdom tempers reaction.
Compassion tempers judgment.
Humility tempers self-interest.

Each signature is a small light — steady and intentional.

The petition remains open.
There is no expiration date.
As long as he walks, the appeal for compassion will remain.

If you believe peaceful conduct deserves peaceful regard, consider adding your name — or simply sharing.
