Fatima Uygun started this petition to Glasgow City Council

On 05 August 2001, 20 years ago this month, Kurdish asylum seeker Firsat Dag was accosted on the old bridge across the motorway leading to Sighthill, Glasgow, he was chased from the bridge to Sighthill Park where he was fatally stabbed.

We are asking Glasgow City Council to name the new bridge across the motorway linking Sighthill to the city centre after Firsat as a tribute to him and to the local community who rose up in protest against his murder.

We think this would be a fitting tribute in the city who stood against the UK Governments “hostile environment” policy at Kenmure Street and told Priti Patel in no uncertain terms NOT IN OUR NAME. Let’s do something in our name for once and make this bridge something the people of Sighthill, Glasgow and Scotland can be proud of.
