Gladys Berejiklian to Scrap Her M5 East “Toll Mania”

The M5 East was opened in 2001 and until July 2020 was free to use. Now the Liberal Government has introduced a $6.95 each-way toll for cars and motorcycles and $20.86 for all other vehicles, adding to the substantial number of tolls that Sydney-siders are burdened with. And with no upgrade to the road.

Sydney has now earned the dubious “honour” of being the most extensively and expensively tolled city in the world. This added financial burden, introduced in the midst of the global COVID-19 pandemic, is adding significant hardship to many especially as Sydney is already one of the most expensive cities in the world to live in. Its introduction has made the use of the M5 East unaffordable for motorists and they are now detouring to Forest and Stoney Creek Roads using them as rat-runs, creating congestion and pollution, both air and noise. Local residents and businesses are suffering as the traffic conditions on these surface roads are now back to pre-M5 days. The number of heavy vehicles using these roads at all hours including throughout the night and every day, is contributing to the erosion of people’s quality of life.

Gladys, the tolls are extortionately priced and need to be reduced with the M5 East toll scrapped altogether. After all this road was built 20 years ago and has been free to use until now!

Please sign this petition and let Gladys Berejiklian and Andrew Constance know that the people deserve better!
