Good morning, all! I hope you're doing well. I want to thank you all for your continued support. The petition has been steady and unwavering, and your shares and comments are educating people on what it means to pay to watch circus animals perform. Education is key, and I thank you for that, immensely.
I wanted to give you some updates since my last blast out to you all:
-I had the chance to attend a very special screening of "Warlords of Ivory" at the Delaware Natural History Museum. It was a difficult but necessary documentary to watch, as the issues surrounding ivory trafficking are much scarier than we think. Senator Coons and a host of other speakers created a panel that brought me confidence that we are doing everything we can to stop poaching and save the animals that are being exploited, perhaps more now than ever before. I also had the pleasure of meeting one of our very own petition supporters, and I thank you Susan, for driving all the way up from Virginia. I applaud your commitment to this cause.
-Since the screening, I've been in contact with Senator Coons' office to see what we're doing in the field of performance animals; TEAPA is a bill that never quite got off the ground, but I'm hopeful that more bills will be passed that prevent endangered species from being exploited in performance shows. I've also been in touch with a wonderful aide from Senator Coons' office who is speaking with the Humane Society on learning more about Ringling Bros. CEC. It seems that not many people are privy to what the CEC is all about (save from the info on their website, which is subjective at best), so bringing awareness to that is a priority right now. People need to know that there is a lot of shadiness and "smoke and mirrors" behind this facility.
-I've been reaching out to The Elephant Sanctuary of Tennessee, PAWS Sanctuary in California, as well as the Animal Defenders International (ADI), who are saving animals left and right! Their amazing work gives me the confidence and hope to continue fighting for this cause. Through this petition alone, I've been contacted by numerous activists who are in the same mind of thinking: the CEC is not the place for these animals and the truth needs to be uncovered.
-With all of the good news, there are some bad. According to a few articles floating around, one attached here for you to review, the elephants performed their very last show this past Sunday in Rhode Island. For what it's worth, this is good news. No more shows, no more training, no more traveling circus. They're done. Officially retired. However, they are now being moved to the CEC, where they'll meet about 20 or so other elephants who have already been calling the CEC their "home." We haven't lost, but it's time to step it up a notch. PETA has been doing a wonderful job, as well, on educating people on the true nature of the CEC. We will continue to do the same, until Ringling Bros. hear us and agree to send their elephants to accredited sanctuaries.
This is all I have for now. It may seem like we're moving at a snail's pace, and if that frustrates you, welcome to my world. But don't lose hope. All of this will take time. I will continue to answer your questions, read your comments, and keep you updated in every step of this process.
Thank you for standing up for the elephants. Continue to educate your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, and strangers on the importance of giving wild animals a natural habitat to call home. Don't endorse campaigns or events that exploit a wild animal just for profit or entertainment. Don't buy ivory and share the truth with your loved ones. The road to victory becomes much clearer when you have values that align with the kind of world you want to create for future generations.
Thank you. Love you, all!
