Thank you to everyone who has signed and supported this petition for caregiver protections under CADA and the ADA. As a caregiver for both my 92-year-old mother with end-stage dementia and my 87-year-old mother-in-law, I know firsthand the importance of being able to balance work with caregiving.
Since returning to the office in June, the challenge has only grown. Caregiving is emotionally and financially draining, especially with the high costs of memory care—around $6,250 per month here in Thornton, CO. Yet, placing my mother in a facility could lead to her cognitive decline, and I’m not willing to take that risk.
We must continue fighting for living wages and legislative protections for caregivers like me—ensuring we don’t have to choose between our loved ones and our jobs.
Huge shoutout to Rep. Yadira Caraveo and Julia Marvin for their tireless work in supporting caregivers, as well as to all the amazing organizations advocating for change. Together, we can make a difference! Let’s keep pushing for amendments to CADA 24-34-402 and the ADA to secure caregiver protections.
