Suggested talking points:

Texas is in the minority…
Water cremation has already been legalized in 28 states, including nearby states of Oklahoma, New Mexico and Missouri, as well as Florida and Arizona.

Please help us respect Texan’s wishes.
Individuals deserve the freedom to select what is most meaningful to them for something as personal as death. In fact, they are freely choosing water cremation today in Texas.  The rate of disposition by flame cremation in the U.S. continues to increase, reaching 57% of total dispositions in 2021, up from 25% in 1999. The national cremation rate is projected to be 71% by 2030. Unfortunately, Texans face unbelievable hurdles in carrying out these wishes. Many widowers and families have to fly their loved ones out of state. This is not only difficult on the families, but an economic loss for Texas. Why not allow water cremation in Texas?

The pandemic should teach us something, and our economy can benefit.
If accessibility to different forms of disposition were available in Texas, we could have avoided considerable hardship Texans endured during the pandemic, from wait times at funeral homes to businesses being overrun when bodies were piling up and processing delays were causing severe hardship. Let’s give Texans and Texas businesses the economic freedom they have grown to expect. Water cremation is not as cost prohibitive or limited as flame cremation. More businesses would have access to helping Texans, and the state would benefit economically with the simple passing of this bill. Urban areas could accommodate water cremation as opposed to flame cremation, which must take place outside of the city due to the process involved. Ultimately, this SB105, is passed, would create an economic boost for our state and ensure less hardship for the future.

This is NOT a religious issue...
No one is forced to choose water cremation. But, for those who do choose water cremation, let families respect their loved ones wishes. An increase in disposition options is respectful to various religious traditions, especially as our state continues to grow and diversify.

This IS an issue of personal freedom and individual choice. We are talking about bodies, their final resting state, and the individual conscience.

Give Texans the freedom they deserve, in life and in death. Please pass SB105. To learn more, visit livefreediefreetx.com.
