PETITION FOR IMMEDIATE HEALTHCARE ACCOUNTABILITY AND PATIENT PROTECTION REFORM

 I respectfully ask that healthcare reform become part a mission by strengthening patient protections and accountability.

Over the past several months, my family experienced firsthand how vulnerable patients can become when they are completely dependent on a healthcare system that offers few immediate options when serious concerns arise. My father was hospitalized with cancer and later passed away after we believed his other significant medical conditions were not adequately addressed. My mother underwent what should have been a routine gallbladder removal but suffered surgical complications that resulted in months of hospitalization and multiple life-threatening medical crises.

During both hospitalizations, we encountered many compassionate and dedicated healthcare professionals. However, we also experienced situations in which we believed unsafe decisions were being made, yet there was no independent authority able to intervene quickly. We exhausted every available internal process by speaking with nursing leadership, hospital administration, and executive staff, and we filed complaints with state agencies. These systems were too slow to protect patients whose lives were in immediate danger.

I respectfully ask that the federal government consider legislation to:

- Establish an independent, third-party patient advocacy and emergency oversight program that can respond immediately when patients or families report serious concerns about hospital care.
- Strengthen accountability and transparency for healthcare providers and healthcare institutions while protecting patients who report unsafe conditions.
- Improve oversight of hospitals by ensuring investigations are conducted independently and without conflicts of interest.
- Develop stronger patient rights protections for individuals who are critically ill or unable to advocate for themselves.
- Explore additional transparency measures that improve documentation and accountability during patient care while protecting the privacy and rights of both patients and healthcare professionals.

The current system often leaves patients and families with nowhere to turn. Hospitals, insurance companies, and existing legal processes provide extensive protections for healthcare providers and institutions, yet patients have no comparable system of immediate protection when they believe serious negligence has occurred. For many American families, pursuing legal action is prohibitively expensive, emotionally exhausting, and extraordinarily difficult. The complexity of medical malpractice litigation often leaves families feeling that justice is beyond their reach. This imbalance undermines public trust and leaves vulnerable patients feeling powerless while they remain dependent on the very system they believe has failed them.

No family should have to remain at a loved one's bedside every hour of every day simply to ensure they are safe. Patients deserve a healthcare system that is compassionate, accountable, transparent, and worthy of the trust Americans place in it.

I love this country, and I believe our healthcare system can be improved. I respectfully ask for advancing reforms that ensure every American has access to safe, accountable healthcare, independent oversight, and immediate assistance when patient safety is at risk. I believe protecting patients and restoring accountability within our healthcare system is an essential part of starting to mend Americas broken healthcare system.

There is power in numbers. We can make a difference. Our healthcare system is broken please don't wait until you or a loved one, become a victim of this money hungry, compassionless institution we know as the American healthcare system.
