Give NH Pet Owners More Rights -HB 1276

Give NH Pet Owners More Rights -HB 1276
The Issue
NH pet owners, what if someone wrongfully killed your pet? In NH pets are viewed the same as random pieces of property. You would therefore only be compensated fair market value of a new dog(exe:$400) and or vet bills. Most cases are not handled by lawyers because of this because the award amount is too low, and it goes to small claims. To prove negligence is tough on your own even with the best evidence. New Hampshire does not allow punitive damages in lawsuits, including those involving veterinary malpractice or injuries to animals. This leaves no real consequences for the wrongful death.
7 states now allow non economic damages (pain and suffering/emotional trauma) for wrongful death of your companion animal. I requested HB 1276 in Sept 2025. If this passes it will be law as soon as 2026, but we need support of everyone who believes their pet is family.
Please show your support and let NH know your pet is FAMILY not a random meaningless piece of property. NH already views your pet as family in divorce court,so why not in other situations? If someone wrongfully kills your pet you SHOULD be compensated for the loss and how it effects your life. I will submit this petition when the public hearing happens early next year, if you could please go to concord and testify in person that would be HUGE. You can also testify online, I will post updates when the time comes, and I encourage you to follow, like and please share. #DoItForDaisy
thank you
