Give Lab Animals Nationwide a Second Chance at Life

The Issue

Every year in the U.S., more than 1 million animals covered under the Animal Welfare Act are used in research and testing, including over 65,000 dogs and 22,000 cats. Many of them are killed when the experiments are done, even if they’re healthy and adoptable.

But there's a better way. Colorado just passed a landmark law requiring research facilities to offer dogs and cats used in testing for adoption before considering euthanasia. It's a common-sense, compassionate policy and it's time to take it nationwide.

We’re calling on Congress and the USDA to create a federal requirement for all U.S. research labs to give surviving dogs and cats a chance at adoption. These animals have endured enough. They deserve a life beyond the lab.

Right now, the USDA has just 115 inspectors overseeing 7,750+ licensed facilities. Oversight is weak, and reporting is inconsistent. A national law would not only save lives it would increase transparency and ensure labs can’t quietly discard the animals they’ve used.

Sign this petition to demand a national lab animal adoption policy. No more needless killing. Let these animals go home.
