Well we hope so!
Barron River MP Craig Crawford stated in a meeting with APT Kuranda that he would commit to putting the idea forward to QLD TMR 5th Feb 2021. A yet ‘to be determined’ train trial (the Savannahlander was suggested) to allow locals to access affordable travel to Kuranda town.
Imagine! In the down season when tourists are not about....that locals could sit on the train, not have to negotiate the Kuranda range racing track, and be able to enjoy the scenery, with a meandering trip to work, school or leisure activity!
We hope that our elected representatives have heard this suggestion, and that they are now making a plan with QLD TMR MP Mark Bailey to stop allowing private enterprise to continue wasteful transportation practices and operation of empty trains, and to start a new era and face of tourism up here in the far north.
Why are public taxes paying for the maintenance of a rail route which they dont even have access to?
If Covid has taught us anything, it is that living local and supporting local business is all we really have. Social participation is not just about commerce, it is about COMMUNITY! And the community needs the rail back!
Can everyone please continue to make the effort to share this petition, sign it, ask about it, write a letter, share an update, get hard copy signatures, and join the APT Kuranda group on Facebook so that you can contribute to conversation about the issues that are now stacking up! It is up to US to make this happen.
Thankyou for any support ✌
