Give Indians the Right to Choose Fuel – Don’t Force E20 on Everyone!

Give Indians the Right to Choose Fuel – Don’t Force E20 on Everyone!
The Issue
The Government of India is making E20 fuel (20% ethanol-blended petrol) mandatory across the country. While we support cleaner energy and reducing fossil fuel dependence, forcing one fuel type on everyone is unfair and unsafe.
• Millions of vehicles are not E20-compatible. Older two-wheelers, cars, and commercial vehicles risk engine damage, reduced mileage, and costly repairs.
• People will face financial burden. Citizens may be pushed to replace or modify vehicles prematurely.
• No one asked us! Consumers deserve the freedom to choose between regular petrol (E0/E5/E10) and E20, instead of being forced to accept a single option.
• India isn’t ready yet. Awareness, testing, and infrastructure are still lacking.
We demand:
• Keep multiple fuel options (E0/E5/E10) available alongside E20 at least until 2030.
• Share independent studies on E20’s effect on existing vehicles.
• Support ethanol-ready vehicle owners with rebates or subsidies instead of punishing current owners.
• Respect citizens’ right to choose fuel, instead of imposing one-size-fits-all mandates.
Cleaner fuel is a great goal—but not at the cost of fairness, safety, and freedom of choice. Sign this petition to urge the Government of India to protect consumer rights and provide fuel options for all.
