Give Federal Law Enforcement Officers Access to VA Home Loan Benefits

The Issue

The VA Home Loan Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, helps active-duty service members, veterans, and eligible spouses purchase homes with no down payment, no private mortgage insurance, and competitive interest rates.

This benefit recognizes the sacrifices made by those who serve our country — but what about those who serve and protect here at home?

Federal law enforcement officers — including those with the FBI, DEA, U.S. Marshals Service, ATF, U.S. Secret Service (Uniformed Division), Customs and Border Protection, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) — face real, life-threatening dangers every day. They carry a badge, a firearm, and a duty to defend the public in unpredictable and often violent situations.

Extending VA Loan eligibility to these officers would:

Honor their sacrifice. Recognize the dangers they face in public-facing, high-risk roles.

Support homeownership. Give these officers a fair chance to build stability and financial security.

Strengthen communities. Encourage officers to put down roots in the neighborhoods they protect.

Boost recruitment and retention. Make law enforcement service more attractive and sustainable.

We propose a narrowly tailored expansion of the VA Loan Program that includes:

Only those officers who carry a badge and firearm in active, public-facing roles.
A minimum of two years of continuous service to ensure eligibility for those truly committed to the profession.
Federal law enforcement officers are America’s domestic defenders. They don’t serve for fame or fortune — they serve because they believe in duty, justice, and safety.

By extending VA Home Loan benefits to them, we honor their courage, support their families, and invest in safer, stronger communities.

✅ Call to Action
Sign this petition to show your support for the men and women who protect us every day. Together, we can give them the same opportunity to achieve the American dream of homeownership.

Why Now Is the Time to Act
Federal law enforcement agencies are struggling to recruit and retain officers, even as threats to national and community safety grow. Extending VA Home Loan eligibility is a practical, meaningful step Congress and the Department of Veterans Affairs can take right now to support those who protect us. These officers serve on the front lines every day — it’s time we stand up for them. Let’s act now to give our federal law enforcement heroes the same opportunity for homeownership that we’ve long provided to our veterans.
