Give Donald Dillbeck Life in Prison Instead of Death

The Issue

Donald David Dillbeck was convicted of murdering an innocent woman 48 hours after he had escaped prison. Donald had lived a life of crime and it ended up resulting in him taking the life of a woman who didn't deserve it. Donald understands that he deserves to be punished for the rest of his life for what he did. He also understands that he is not the victim, she is. What Donald and those close to him are asking is that Governor Ron DeSantis allow him to serve the rest of his life in prison instead of being executed.

No one, including Donald himself, is asking for special treatment. Again, we are all in agreement, including Donald, that he deserves to continue to be punished, and serving life in prison is more than appropriate. None of us are justifying what he did. Again, not even Donald. We only ask that he is spared the death penalty because ending his life will not solve anything.

Donald needs to continue to learn what he did was wrong. He needs to continue to educate himself and find ways to give back to his community while also remaining in prison. He should continue to learn about the life he took and use the remaining years he has left to mentor to other prisoners to never go down the same route he did.

Yes, ending his life may feel good for a few minutes, but it won't change anything. If he's instead, allowed to do the following that was just mentioned, he has the opportunity to help stop the cycle. No, he can't stop every prisoner from repeating his mistakes. But if he can reach out to a few prisoners and help them not repeat his mistakes, and learn to make a difference in his community while continuing to serve his life in prison, would that be the best thing overall?

We truly hope that you will consider this, Governor DeSantis.
