Give Destiny 2 the goodbye it deserves

Das Problem

As a longtime Destiny player since the Red War, with several thousand hours spent in your game, it genuinely makes me sad to see Destiny 2 coming to an end, even though I can understand why this decision was made.

What I struggle to understand, however, is the way it currently seems to end.

Destiny had one of the most loyal playerbases in gaming, and over the years many players felt pushed away by various decisions. If Destiny 2 is truly approaching its final chapter, then please consider giving the community a real farewell by bringing back the old content that made so many people fall in love with the game in the first place.

Bring back the old raids. Bring back the original campaigns and story missions. Let players experience Destiny from beginning to end again.

One of the biggest issues for new players was always that they entered somewhere in the middle of the timeline without truly understanding the story, the world, or the emotional moments that made Destiny special. Restoring the original progression of the game would not only help new players, but also give longtime players the chance to relive the journey properly one last time.

You already saw how strongly the community reacted to nostalgia-driven content like Into the Light, Onslaught, and the return of classic weapons. People came back because those experiences reminded them why they loved Destiny.

I also believe that gaming communities are sometimes underestimated in terms of how loyal and personally connected they are to the games they love. When players feel heard and respected, they are incredibly willing to return, support a franchise long-term, and stand behind developers even during difficult times. Destiny has always had one of those uniquely loyal communities.

Imagine the impact of returning raids like Leviathan or Wrath of the Machine, especially with creative approaches such as:
- a “classic meta” mode with curated loadouts based on the old meta,
- a true “classic mode” with the original encounters and sandbox, but complete freedom of loadout choice,
- or modernized versions with updated mechanics, Champions, and refreshed rewards.

From both a player perspective and a business perspective, this feels like a huge missed opportunity otherwise.

I personally hold a Master’s degree in Business Administration and Finance, so I understand both the player side and the economic side of these decisions. Reintroducing already existing content would likely require far fewer development resources than creating entirely new experiences, while potentially bringing back a massive amount of players, even if only temporarily.

More importantly, it would give the community something many players feel they never truly got:
a proper goodbye.

Especially considering that many players originally paid for expansions and campaigns that are no longer playable today, preserving and restoring that content would mean a lot to the community.

I truly believe many people still hope for a future Destiny 3 with a strong narrative direction and the emotional magic that originally made this franchise so special.

Thank you for all the memories over the years, and thank you for taking the time to read this.

Sincerely,
Your Dad (Timelost)#0766
