Give Australian flyers the rights Qantas already gives everyone else
Give Australian flyers the rights Qantas already gives everyone else
The issue
Your flight gets cancelled. In London, Toronto, New York or anywhere in Europe, the law says the airline has to give you your money back. In Australia, you have no automatic right to anything at all.
That's not bad luck. That's the law, or the lack of one.
In Canberra in May, I put it to a Senate committee myself: "What happens if they're going to a family member's funeral or wedding and it's the airline's fault and they miss it? They've got to be compensated." Compensated with money, not a voucher or an apology. That hasn't changed. There's still no law that forces it to happen.
The Senate still hasn't voted on this, and every signature here is one more reason it can't pass without automatic refunds and real financial compensation written into it. Add yours before they decide. Qantas calls itself the Spirit of Australia. Right now it treats Australians like cash cows: fined $100 million for selling seats on flights it knew it had cancelled, and when the government asked disrupted passengers what they actually got, 82% received no help at all — no rebooking, no food, no support of any kind.
We're calling on Parliament and Australia's airlines to give us:
An automatic refund when a flight is cancelled, no fighting required.
Financial compensation when the delay or cancellation is the airline's fault.
Customer service standards airlines actually have to meet.
Real penalties when an airline misleads its own customers.
Australians deserve the rights Qantas already gives passengers everywhere else in the world. Sign now, and share this with everyone who's ever been stranded, lied to, or left out of pocket by an airline that faced no consequences at all.
