The Issue

This petition is in support of Tyler Leung, a senior student athlete at the Academy of American Studies, who has dedicated the past four years to his school’s baseball program and community. Since his freshman year, Tyler has been a member of the varsity team, consistently putting in the time, effort, and commitment to represent his school with pride.

Beyond baseball, Tyler has gone above and beyond as a member of the school community. He has participated in multiple other sports, supported school events, contributed to clubs, and used his photography to give back, providing work for yearbooks and school activities. He has maintained strong academics, built positive relationships with teachers, and has no disciplinary record. Throughout his high school career, he has demonstrated dedication, character, and school spirit.

Due to circumstances completely out of his control during the February snowstorm, Tyler Leung missed the attendance eligibility cutoff, as the absences were not approved as excused for eligibility purposes despite being caused by the snowstorm. While there has been support from others for reconsideration, the final decision remains under school administration, and he is currently unable to participate in his senior baseball season.

This decision has taken away his final opportunity to compete, contribute to his team in a meaningful role, and experience Senior Night, something Tyler has worked toward for years. After everything he has invested into his school and team, this outcome has had a significant emotional and mental impact.

This petition is not about seeking special treatment, but about recognizing fairness and context. The situation was unavoidable and does not reflect Tyler’s responsibility or commitment.

Supporters are asking for reconsideration so that Tyler can complete his senior season and represent his school one last time.
