“No, I have not received my check yet.”
If this describes your situation, you are not alone – in fact, 8 million households may be eligible and have not received one or both of their direct relief payments.
Well, good news was shared this past Thursday. The Treasury Department finally has a plan! They are going to work on connecting those families with their payments. Here is how:
- For people who have not filed an income tax return, they are going to make the online tools for claiming your payments better!
- No internet or non-English speaking? They are going to reach out to you to help.
- Maybe you threw it away, thinking it was junk mail? If it was issued to you but our government sees it has not been cashed, the IRS & Treasury are going to reissue or reach out to you to get more information.
So, what can you do if you haven’t received your money?
- Check your status to figure out a plan
- Know that it might come in the mail via a debit card. Look out for it!
- Decide that the easiest route might be to claim the benefit on your 2020 tax return.
Hundreds of thousands of CARES Act checks and debit cards have not been cashed or activated. These direct payments are seen as the fastest, most direct way of turning around our economic crisis.
But, ensuring everyone receives these checks is essential. If you have a friend or family member who is in this situation, share the link to this email and help them get the financial support they need to get through this crisis.
We are going to keep fighting for recurring direct relief payments. Look out for another email from me later this week! Thank you!
