GIVE 2 NINTH GRADERS A PHONE

We, two students of Grade 9, wish to raise awareness about an important issue that affects our education, our ability to participate fully in school activities, and our sense of inclusion among our peers.
In today’s world, a mobile phone is no longer just a device for entertainment or idle chatting — it has become an essential tool for communication, collaboration, and learning. As students, we are increasingly required to complete group projects, share files, attend online classes, communicate with teachers, access learning platforms, and stay updated about assignments and deadlines — often at short notice and outside regular school hours.
Without a phone, it is extremely challenging to keep up with these basic academic responsibilities. Many of us rely on class group chats, project groups, educational apps, and research tools that are primarily accessed through smartphones. Not having a phone can cause unnecessary delays, missed instructions, and an unfair disadvantage compared to peers who can access information instantly.
Additionally, in today’s social environment, having no phone in high school can lead to feelings of isolation, embarrassment, and social exclusion. While social connections should never come at the cost of our well-being, completely cutting us off from a tool that is standard for our age group can negatively impact our self-esteem and our ability to engage confidently in class and with classmates.
We understand and respect the valid concerns about misuse, addiction, and online safety. However, these risks can be managed through clear rules, supervision, and trust-building. A complete denial of a phone ignores the reality that for students today, it is as much a basic necessity as notebooks, textbooks, and internet access.
Therefore, through this petition, we request that parents and guardians recognize that access to a mobile phone is not a luxury but a basic educational need. We ask for open conversations, fair rules, and trust-based guidelines that help us learn to use this tool responsibly while also giving us the means to stay connected, informed, and included in our academic life.
This is a sincere plea for support, understanding, and the chance to thrive in an environment where having a phone is not a privilege but a practical, reasonable necessity for a modern student.
in conclusion: meha and vrishti need a phone
