Girrabong Road Traffic Calming Measures
Girrabong Road Traffic Calming Measures
The issue
Residents of Lenah Valley who live on busy thoroughfares ("rat runs") are impacted by traffic volumes and anti-social driving on a daily basis, at high volumes.
At a basic level, the high volume/anti-social use of these roads impacts the amenity of residents on who live on these these unduly busy thoroughfares. For example - high volumes of fast moving traffic during peak hours and motorists "hooning" at night, in often wet conditions. While on a more serious level there is the question of pedestrian safety - within the past 2 years, three road signs have been destroyed and a car has crashed into a residents front yard, any of these incidents could have involved a pedestrian with obvious consequences.
Recent roadworks on Yelgun Place and Girrabong road intersection has included temporary road furniture. The installation of this furniture, coupled with a reduced road speed has demonstrated the effectiveness of road calming measures.
Due to the above, it is evident that Girrabong Road (and any other unduly busy roads) requires permanent traffic calming measures. Therefore, this petition has been raised and shall be presented to Hobart City Council's elected members for motion.
