How many more senseless & entirely preventable shootings have to occur before we do something about gun control?! We’ve got too many guns in the wrong hands, and there’s too many bullets. 

As citizens and constituents of this great nation, We strongly urge you to take a firm stand and make a positive change by restricting access to guns and saving lives.

The House of Representatives passed bipartisan legislation to expand background checks on gun sales back in March of 2022, but the Senate STILL hasn’t taken it up for a vote. We cannot afford to wait one more day to pass this lifesaving legislation. We need 100,000 supporters to sign our petition right now urging the Senate to pass expanded background checks immediately! We urge you to expand background checks now – a measure that 97% of American voters support. Requiring a background check on gun sales will keep guns out of dangerous hands and save precious lives.

This bill establishes a process for the licensing and registration of firearms. It also prohibits the possession of certain ammunition and large capacity ammunition feeding devices.

Why is this important?! El Paso, Texas. Sutherland Springs, Texas. Las Vegas. Orlando. Sandy Hook. Columbine. Red Lake, Minnesota. Essex, Vermont. Lancaster. Aurora. Virginia Tech, & now Uvalde, Texas. The list is endless, How many more innocent victims must die at the hands of an antiquated & oft-misinterpreted amendment?

Enough!! It's time to stop the violence.

Gun control doesn't have to mean no guns. We are not suggesting we take guns away. We are suggesting we put tighter controls on acquiring and owning them. Under current federal law, firearms dealers can sell guns without a completed background check if the check takes longer than three business days. Gun show loopholes must be stopped. Ammunition should not be sold online. Mandatory wait periods should be enforced, during which time a thorough background check, psychological and medical evaluation, and character references should be completed. There must be certain exceptions for high-capacity magazines made for military and law enforcement, but Those who already own such large-capacity magazines could keep them but not sell or transfer them to anyone. Permits to buy a gun would be good for five years and be renewable.

More accountability should be placed in the hands of retailers. When patrons refuse wait periods, authorities should be notified. Training and testing should be mandatory, as should a renewal process that includes many of the above-mentioned evaluation terms. Gun owners and non-gun owners need to come together and agree on regulations that protect the right to own a firearm for sane, responsible adults and keep them out of the hands of the mentally unstable.

We would hope that we could all agree to submit ourselves to these terms when it's easier to go to a gun show and pick up a firearm than it is to go to the local pharmacy and buy cold medication. Acquiring and owning a gun should be at least as controlled as getting a learner's permit, license, and privilege to drive a car.

Gun control alone is not the whole of the solution, but it's a start. And if it keeps guns out of the hands of even one mentally unstable person and saves one sweet life, it's worth it. There’s a reason why other countries don’t have mass shootings and as a nation, we should work towards that.
